The League of Legends College Championship is taking place in Los Angeles this weekend, from May 25 - 28.

This event is the largest League of Legends College Championship, with eight teams competing this year — the winning team from four different regional divisions, a trio of wildcard slots, and the Big Ten Network champion — with the teams competing in a bracket on May 25 and then the semifinals on May 26 and May 27. The final pair will fight for the title on May 28.

The eight teams are as follows: Texas A&M, University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, Maryville University who all won regional finals. They’re joined by wildcard winners Carnegie Mellon, Robert Morris and University of British Colombia and the Big Ten Network Championship winners The University of Maryland.

All matches will be broadcast live, and both teams and sponsors will no doubt be keeping an eye on the college teams to see how they perform. There are very few grassroots ways for League of Legends players to get noticed, short of being recognised for severe pubstomps. Players will no doubt be hoping the downtime spent playing League of Legends during college can turn into a profitable diversion.
