The Gears Pro Circuit s2 expected to have a $2m prize pool after crowdfunding

Gears Esports have detailed the second season of the Gears Pro Circuit.

Gears Esports and The Coalition have announced that the second season of the Gears Pro Circuit will have an $2m prize pool, which, if hit, would double the $1m pool for season one.

Gears Esports have said that the addition of new regional events, grassroots tournaments and prize pool crowdfunding via Esports Support Packs, they’re expecting total prizes to hit $2m. Gears Esports are contributing a starting $1,000,000 in cash prizes in the meantime.

The announcement also detailed their major and minor LAN schedule. Most of the major tournaments will be taking place in North America, with the previously delayed Mexico City event taking place in January. Fans in the rest of the world will be better served by smaller regional events which are taking place in a variety of countries around the world. You can see the dates and locations on the announcement page.

This focus on NA events comes at the same time as a pledge from Gears Esports to increase their funding or travel coverage. Teams from each region will receive travel coverage if tournaments are far off. Teams offered travel cover will be determined by Gears Pro Points, with the better teams in a region, naturally, offered the opportunity to travel for events.

Organisations competing in the Gears Pro Circuit could also benefit from the Preferred Partner program for major esports organisations, increasing the opportunities for partnered organisations to generate revenue.

"This season also sees the addition of a Preferred Partner program for major esports organizations," Gears Esports says in their announcement. "Organizations can qualify for financial incentives based on audience size, participation, and regional representations. Organizations can also work with the Gears Esports team to raise the visibility of their brands in additional content planned for season two, such as our new reality series, event content and profile features, in-game promotions and on social media."

It seems that the messaging for Gears Pro Circuit’s second season is for the event to be bigger and also financially more attractive to competitors, which should go some way to building out a healthier, more sustainable, esports scene around the game.
