Kinguin drops G2 sponsorship to avoid conflict of interest
Mike Stubbs

Kinguin, an online game reseller that has invested heavily in eSports, has announced that it will no longer sponsor G2 Esports.

The move is to prevent any conflict of interests and stay within Riot’s rules for the LCS. This issue has arisen as a team that Kinguin has the naming rights to, Team Kinguin, just qualified for the EU Challenger series. This could present a potential conflict of interest say if G2 were to play against Kinguin in the relegation tournament at the end of the split.

Riot has rules to prevent this type of thing happening, and while they have not commented on the situation it seems that this move is more preventative from G2 and Kinguin than something Riot mandated.

This is of course a blow for G2, but with arguably the best team in the EU LCS finding new sponsors shouldn't be too difficult.
