Investment firm Morgan Stanley has predicted that the Overwatch League will bring in more than $100 million a year when it gets going.
The report, which was discovered by Dot Esports, says that if everything goes perfectly for the league and it expands quickly that number could be as high as $720 million per year, which would make it more successful than the MLS. However the requirements for it to reach that number seem a little un realistic, with the report saying they would need 12 million viewers for the finals.
The $100 million valuation seems a little more realistic, but even its revenue breakdown seems a little ambitious to us. The report suggests that that $100 million would be made up of $32 million from ads and licencing, $30 million from sponsorships and the rest coming from merchandise and ticket sales. That last part in particular seems very ambitious, but the folks over at Morgan Stanley surely know a little more than we do on this matter, and probably have some insider info about the league.
If the $100 million valuation does prove to be true then the Overwatch League would quickly become one of the biggest competitions in all of eSports.
