Li ‘Vasilii’ Wei Jun, a professional League of Legends player for Newbee, has been fired from his team and banned from playing the game after he livestreamed himself assaulting his girlfriend.

Wei Jun was streaming League of Legends last night and his stream captured his girlfriend criticising him for repeatedly losing his temper. Their argument started to heat up, before Wei Jun’s made the totally reasonable suggestion that if he was getting wound up due to other players he should just ignore or block them next time.

At this, Wei Jun flipped his desk and the verbal fight turned physical. There is a video, which is disturbing. However, when Wei Jun flipped his desk, he upset his webcam so there is only audio. Shortly after the domestic abuse appears to have taken place, Wei Jun picked up his equipment and returned to streaming, when the police showed up to arrest him.

Wei Jun is known for his temper, which has seen him explode during competitive matches and quit out of them. However, this is much worse than a verbal outburst. In the background of the footage you can see items tossed around in the room as things play out.

League of Legends esports staff this morning issued a statement condemning his actions and stating that Wei Jun is banned.

“Following the recent reports of a domestic violence incident involving Li “Vasilii’ Wei Jun, we can confirm that Vasilii is under investigation and is suspended effective immediately from all professional, semi-professional, and Riot-sanctioned competitive play. The full extent of his suspension will be confirmed once the investigation has concluded.

There is no place for physical violence in the League of Legends community. We will not hesitate to exclude from our game and from our sport those who use violence or physical intimidation against others.”

The video is here, but it’s unpleasant and unsettling, linked only as proof that this occurred.
