Last year, 2011 Dota International winners Na’Vi fell on hard times, with three of their roster leaving the team on November 7, after failing to qualify for the Boston Major.
This included support player Akbar Butaev, better known as SoNNeiKO, who has been generally achknowledged as one of best Russian supports in the scene. Now, he’s returned to the team.
Na’Vi themselves have seen better days. They used to be seen as one of the best teams in the business, winning the 2011 International after making three consecutive International grand finals and taking the win on nearly a dozen LAN tournaments over three years. Then, after a top eight finish at The International 4, the team’s core players started to move on, and even after several roster changes, they’ve not managed to regain the magic.
The team returned to The International for the 6th and 7th iterations, but placed last in both events. Their slow spiral continued as they’ve failed to qualify for the upcoming Kiev Major, which is taking place in their home country of Uktraine. However, they’ll now be focussing their attention on qualifying for the forthcoming International 7 tournament.
