The first Quake World Championships is coming to QuakeCon at the end of this month, taking place August 24-26 in Dallas.
Here the best Quake Champions players in the world will clash for a share of a $1m prize pool, in addition to the honour of being crowned the first ever victor at the inaugural Quake World Championships.
Regional finals last weekend in Burbank, California and Leicester, England saw competitors fighting to secure a spot in the finals.
There are two separate tournaments here, a four on four team-based Sacrifice mode, and the famous Duel mode.
24 players have fragged their way to the Duel Finals, with big names including Shane ‘Rapha’ Hendrixson, Alexey ‘Cypher’ Yanushevsky and Tim ‘DaHanG’ Fogarty, all top tier players who are well respected in the Quake duelling community. Still, this is a new game, and everyone has a lot to prove. Eight more finalists for the game’s duel finals will be found from the BYOC area of QuakeCon.
The Sacrifice mode is starring Team Liquid and NOTOFAST, both with well respected rosters.
The finals, run in conjunction with esports outfit ESL, will be streamed live on Twitch, obviously.
