Dota 2 International disrupted by DDoS attack

Valve’s massive Dota 2 International eSports tournament suffered an unwanted hold up yesterday.

VentureBeat reports that the event was paused for approximately three hours due to a DDoS attack, forcing the livestream production team to fill the time with pre-produced video packages and assorted analysis of the action that should have been taking place.

The day was supposed to have opened with a showdown between American teams Evil Geniuses and Complexity.

Even prior to the DDoS attack, the first two days of the tournament had been spotted with connection issues, disrupting both the matches themselves and the online video broadcasts.

A complicating factor is that The International’s massive $18m prize pool has been partially raised by fan purchases of The Compendium.
