Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds’ 2017 Charity Invitation raises over $220,000 for Gamers Outreach

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds 2017 Charity Invitational, the first real competitive event for the phenomenally successful battle royale shooter, has raised a little over $120,000 for charity.

Each region had 32 Duo teams competing for a win across three games, with the players with the highest placement across the three rounds in each region snagging the win. This is interesting as a sort of prototype for how Battlegrounds esports might work, something I fooled around with in my very first day as Esports Pro editor.

It also raised a little over $220,000 for Gamers Outreach, a charity that “provides equipment, technology, and software to help kids cope with treatment inside hospitals.” The target for donations was $100,000, but Bluehole announced they’d match the first $100,000 in donations. It’s a great opener for Battleground’s competitive scene, and close to a quarter million raised for charity isn’t bad, either.
